Web Writing reaches 1,000+ open peer review comments

1 Leave a comment on paragraph 1 0 WebWriting1000commentsOver 1,000 comments have been posted during the six-week open peer review phase of Web Writing: Why and How for Liberal Arts Teaching and Learning, our digital book-in-progress under contract with Michigan Publishing. And more comments are still rolling in before the clock strikes midnight on October 30th, 2013. Thanks to everyone who generously contributed their time to the process. We’ll share more details next week.

3 Leave a comment on paragraph 3 0 Updated Nov 1st: In case you’re counting, the final tally of comments posted during the open review period was 1,056, of which 19 were general comments on the book as a whole. Quality matters more than quantity, of course, but still, the total number surprised me. Shawn Graham, who contributed essays to Web Writing and a related volume, Writing History in the Digital Age (which received around 940 comments during an 8-week review period), provided helpful advice on how to extract the commenting data from the WordPress SQL database and suggested some tools for analyzing patterns (such as Stanford Topic Modeling Toolbox). Looking forward to digging into this, when time permits, as there were limits to my Excel-driven analysis for the last volume. To read more about what we learned from the comments in WHDA, see “Conclusions,” paragraphs 22+.

4 Leave a comment on paragraph 4 0 During November 2013, the Web Writing editorial team will review all essays and feedback received, then invite selected authors to revise and resubmit for the final manuscript in early 2014, as described in our editorial process. Stay tuned.
